I have now enabled this option as well (can still be useful). After a logout and login (lightdm) (the setting alerts when you "enable" that you have to logout/login) I observe [desktop/ibus/general] version='1.5.25' preload-engines=['xkb:fr::fra', 'xkb:es::spa'] engines-order=['xkb:es::spa', 'xkb:fr::fra'] in my dconf dump / > /tmp/backup settings for french and spanish for example. also lightdm seems to create a "mate-session" process which has started automatically : ibus-daemon --xim 1430 mate-session 1454 /usr/bin/ibus-daemon --xim 1481 /usr/lib/ibus/amd64/ibus-dconf Maybe I could add a screenshot of this in the user contributed documentation ... The functionality is there but must be enabled ...
