Hi all,

just wanted to update here (case is somehow closed):

* I am not sure if I did something wrong or not, but latest GUI ISO 20200504 (thanks to all involved for that excellent work) brought success! * I have used same DVD RW device on my Win10 machine, and same program to burn CD/DVD (CDburnerXP) to create boot-able media. * USB boot was not possible, since machine blocks as soon as I attach USB key * No ISO from 2019 was possible to boot (from CD/DVD). Media from 2018 was OK, but "pkg update" failed (maybe only 4GB RAM was show stopper)
* Nothing was changed on Dell Vostro 400

I guess something else was changed on recent builds, so finally PC was booted from DVD and I am very pleased to share it with you.

One more time, many thanks to the OI /hipster team an others!

Best regards

P.S: Thanks for LibreOffice too

Hi AlP,

cannot boot my DELLs from any media created in 2019. Last one is text ISO from http://dlc.openindiana.org/isos/hipster/20181023/

Any newer ISO shows error (see attachment).

Also, no USB boot possible, but that might be related to DELLs, because those are 10+ years old.

Anyway, I gave up on moving old HD to SSD. I will use 2 extra partitions for ZFS log and cache there, and then transfer system with zfs send/recv for datasets and/or pools

Hopefully, I will manage to fix OS, since its publisher is still http://pkg.openindiana.org

Regards.

Heh,

that is DELL Inspiron 530 PC (2 cores CPU), and this is its OI history:
* opensolaris
* moved to openindiana/dev
* moved to openindiana/hipster (several versions, like /hipster-2015, etc)
* within hipster from http to https
* and finally from grub to loader

What I wanted to do is to migrate from HD to SSD, and that resulted to funny GRUB _ prompt.

Tried to boot it from latest ISO (and USB), and got (after some lines were scrolling on screen) error:
"start not found"
-> boot terminated.

Also, tried to boot Dell Vostro 400 (4 cores CPU) to get faster home SAN and to use SSD, all has failed.

Just for joke, I have found old openindiana 148 /dev and it was installed w/o problems (on both Dell PCs)!

So, something is changed in meantime.

I will try with older /hipster versions (depends which is oldest I can find)

Regards.

Do you still has GRUB installed?
Can you boot from iso?
If so, do you see your pool?
If you can import pool and mount BE, you can try to use bootadm to install boot-loader.

Hi AlP,

well, I forgot to say: migrate rpool from HD to bigger SSD.
Tried, but it has failed - PC stop at boot attempt with prompt:

GRUB _

Thanks anyway.

Hi.

I think the most straightforward way is to do
zpool attach rpool olddisk newdisk

After waiting for sync (check it with zpool status), you can zpool detach pool olddisk, remove old disk and boot from new one.

Тема: [OpenIndiana-discuss] /hipster: migrate rpool to bigger disk

Hi all,

I was searching around how to migrate (copy) rpool to bigger disk. Found
plenty solutions with grub solution, but for /hipster we use boot
loader, right?

This
(https://openindiana.org/pipermail/openindiana-discuss/2017-September/021431.html)
does not explain procedure and is only result I could get with my logic
of searching web...

Do we have some documentation available somewhere?

My case is single disk rpool, and I want to "clone" it to larger, and
perhaps with ashift=12 option newly created "rpool", which then will
become new bootable device.

Thanks in advance for any pointer (I did ignored docs from
wiki.openindiana.org and could not find guide on docs.openindiana.org).

Regards.
