Greetings all,

I have several apps and libraries I want to compile and install, however I'm not finding clear direction on which compiler is considered the 'default' for Hipster. I installed 'build-essential' and it looks like installed a whole bunch of stuff, but I want to install and use the 'recommended' compiler -- for example -- the compiler used by the OI project to compile Mate, Geany, Thunderbird and so-on.

The system default is 4.9 at the moment. You can check this with "pkg mediator". This should give you a line "gcc vendor 4.9". This is the compiler that is sym-linked to /usr/bin. Packages that need another version explicitly reference it (e.g. mongodb-3.3).

Regards
Andreas
