Hi Michael, Alp said it actually:

And as stated there: "The information and procedures below can help if you are migrating your system to a new rpool device, or perhaps if you are into writing new installation wizards." I also bugged Dave Miner 5 to 8 years ago on caiman-discuss why they never thought about incorporating at least some few advanced extra options into the GUI. They repeatedly and all over again told me I shall SHUT UP (and Sanjay Nadkarni that person - on Illumos-devel everybody saw which lies he now claims about me, only because I wasn't happy at all with IPS at the time [for valid reasons] and also complained about the same things as you in Caiman GUI, on caiman-disc...@opensolaris.org) and they wanted it in the slim (hence the name) way they did it. Simply because to re-visualize all the permutations of available cmd line complexity into a GUI isn't possible anyway. Nevertheless, this Sanjay Nadkarni heavily and for all times disappointed me with the trash he "contributed" to Illumos-devel last month without any reason, and I never saw him posting much to Illumos-Devel ever before, what a worthwhile "contribution". Now, you are free to do that (to add the wanted functionality) as slim_install is open-src (until the point when they moved it into OS/Net in September 2012 and hence closed it). If not, then follow your own suggestion and let Caiman hide that complexity from you, perform a default install and afterwards add mirrors. I'm on your side, but just use the default and add mirrors later. It's easy. And it's reliable.
