Hi,
today I had a faulted disk in one of my pools. For some reason, the hot
spare did not kick in, meaning the status was "available".
The last thing I did about that hot spare was a zpool clear poolname,
upon which it became available again automatically.
Now, strange enough that pool had autoreplace set to the default, which
is "off". If I understand the documentation at
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19253-01/819-5461/gcvdi/index.html
correctly, it should have stayed INUSE, then.
It's still not obvious what prevented the hot spare to become "INUSE"
upon the drive fault.
