Only if he turns of the cache advertising on the COMSTAR LU, which is not the default (i.e. VMware won't send sync writes unless he does something). If he wants to simulate what commercial vendors iSCSI appliance vendors do (e.g. EMC), just put the whole storage box onto a dedicated UPS. There are some trivial shell tricks I thought about which would fully replicate what appliance vendors do, but these are beyond the scope of a simple e-mail.
