Drive locator LEDs on this particular model are driven via either SGPIO over the iPASS connectors or via dedicated ports on the backplane running to {motherboard, daughter card} - the former is the case here.
The chassis locator, on the other hand, is almost certainly configured as you describe. [Having poked around a bit, I found that I can force LED blinking per SAS port (note that I didn't say SAS lane - all drives wired to said port blink or fail to blink at once, and no permutation of SGPIO register state that I found changes this).] - Rich On Mon, Jul 2, 2012 at 11:30 PM, Richard Elling <richard.ell...@richardelling.com> wrote: > On Jul 2, 2012, at 2:49 PM, Rich wrote: > >> Hm, we appear to have been discussing a different problem, which is >> fascinating. >> >> I have a number of devices which are in the Supermicro SC846A-R1200 >> chassis - which has no expanders, just 6 SFF-8087 ports on it, running >> into LSI 9201-16i controllers. >> >> Fascinatingly, attempting to issue a sas2ircu [card] locate A:B on >> reports success, but no LEDs blinked at all.
