It might also matter that you have an older version of the tools. The one I fetched recently from SourceForge and compiled was 5.42: smartctl 5.42 2011-10-20 r3458 [i386-pc-solaris2.11] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-11 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net But still not everything works for me, i.e. I can't initiate SMART self-tests (scrubs of disk media by disk itself) on a particular box.
