There's a little bit of confusion here. With IPv4, DHCP is invoked either by manual configuration or by NWAM, because there's no standard IPv4 mechanism that tells a node whether it should run DHCP on a given network. With IPv6, DHCPv6 is invoked by the actions of in.ndpd, because there's a standard Router Advertisement based mechanism that tells a node whether DHCPv6 is in use.
