If you get a crash dump, can you provide it? Is this a machine with an x2apic? If it is, have you disabled it? (there's at least one known issue with complete, solid, system hangs on machines with x2apics).
That said, if you were triggering the deadman regardless something is clearly wrong that _is not_ the x2apic issue, possibly in addition.
