I see similar problems using Oracle S11X on my workstation. Others on the 
solarisx86 mailing list have no such problems - the speculation there is that 
it is related to the hardware/CPU.

My workstation has a SandyBridge i7 CPU.

It might be worth raising a bug at virtualbox.org.
