Hi Jason, It's been decided that when an oi-sfe package provides a newer version of a package that OI core provides, the oi-sfe package name will be prefixed with sfe.openindiana.org and will install in /usr/gnu.
So, you should be able to install SFE git by doing pkg install sfe.openindiana.org/developer/versioning/git and run it by typing /usr/gnu/bin/git Your desire for nagios-nrpe and nagios-plugin has been noted.
