It would be interesting to find what the difference is between them.

I know back when the Mac Mini first came out (years ago), you couldn't rsync 
lots of files to/from the Mac (the problem was the OS at the time, using when 
the Mac Mini was first introduced as a time reference, not a problem with the 
Mini itself).

It persisted from 10.3 into 10.4. Don't know when they finally fixed it, but 
10.5 and 10.6 haven't had that problem for me.

Doesn't make much difference here, just that OI isn't the only place that's had 
problems with big rsync jobs. :)
