It would be interesting to find what the difference is between them. I know back when the Mac Mini first came out (years ago), you couldn't rsync lots of files to/from the Mac (the problem was the OS at the time, using when the Mac Mini was first introduced as a time reference, not a problem with the Mini itself). It persisted from 10.3 into 10.4. Don't know when they finally fixed it, but 10.5 and 10.6 haven't had that problem for me.
