All,

A big congratulations to the development team. My main SOHO server's OS has not been upgraded since os_134b because OpenIndiana failed to install for one reason or another. The last of the problems was with bge and usb drivers. I tried oi_148b and finally have OpenIndiana running. In fact, all the little projects I wanted to try (i.e. netatalk) went without a hitch.

The only caveats I have for people upgrading are:

1) If you had SpamAssassin installed, the move from perl 5.8 to 5.10 means you'll have to install it again. The only issue I had was that the spamc tests failed the build. I force installed it anyway since I don't use spamc in my setup.

2) I'm still getting the occasional error in the logs:

mDNSResponder: [ID ... daemon.error] ERROR: getOptRdata - unknown opt 4

This seems to happen much less than it did in os_134b (I turned off avahi and mDNS in 134b because of this).

That's it! Everything else went smoothly. Goodbye OpenSolaris, hello OpenIndiana! Kudos. I'm a very happy camper.

I'll have to try oi_148b on my ThinkPad z61p laptop again. That was getting close too. :)

Gary
