Ken,
Thanks for these clarifications re Radeon, btw... So, in an abundance of over-clarification: For my HD 3870, I've been resigned to using the vesa driver so far with this card; is this still the state of play? I do understand from others here that I shouldn't expect any 3D functionality with this card, and that there's no way to use the card's processor to generate the graphical desktop we might try to send out via VNC, or other virtual desktop s'ware. Is all of this still true? The driver of choice is now the 'radeon' driver which is compatible with the ATI Radeon HD 5970 card and the ATI Radeon 5*** series. The radeonHD driver is consider defunct so use the newer "radeon" 6.13.1 or higher driver only in this case with OI_148/Solaris 11 Express. The ATI Radeon HD 6*** series graphic adapters are compatible with the radeon driver as well (PCI ID and tweaks aside). ~ Ken Mays --- On Sun, 12/26/10, Edward Martinez <mindbende...@live.com> wrote: > From: Edward Martinez <mindbende...@live.com> > Subject: Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] IO_b148 on an ATI HD 5770: Xorg failure / > black screen > To: openindiana-discuss@openindiana.org > Date: Sunday, December 26, 2010, 5:05 AM > On 12/26/10 05:34, Robin Axelsson > wrote: > > I have tried using various configurations ranging from > the system's automatic setup (i.e. no xorg.conf) to using > various custom made xorg.conf files where I tried enforcing > different drivers such as the VESA driver and different > screen resolutions.
