Its really for consistency. We don't hardcode the other path relationships and whilst that one is a minority, we've clearly decided not to hardcode it either. The fact its not widely used compared to some of its relatives is not really the point. If we did hardcode it, I can imagine the question about why it wasn't parametrised ;-).
