I tried with core-image-minimal. I added these two lines to my local.conf: CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL += "strace" TCLIBC = "uclibc" The libiconv problem is a minor one, it turns out that gettext and the kernel also refuse to compile in this configuration.
