I have built the development version of OpenBabel in Ubuntu. However, regardless of installation directory, it conflicts with the stable version of OpenBabel installed through the package manager. If I remove that version (installed in /usr as opposed to /usr/local), the development version works perfectly.
The problem is that there are a number of applications, such as Avogadro or Gabedit, that depend on the OpenBabel package (and therefore are removed if one removes OpenBabel). I have tried to set up different environmental variables to have the development version of OpenBabel search /usr/local, but the only way I was able to have it working was by removing the stable version. Is there a way for both versions to coexist on a Linux system? -- View this message in context: http://forums.openbabel.org/Different-versions-of-OpenBabel-in-Debian-based-and-other-Linux-systems-tp4659246.html Sent from the General discussion mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Transform Data into Opportunity.
