I had tremendous troubles install the python bindings on Yosemite with error messages similar to the above. I tracked down the problem to conflicts between homebrew and macports versions of python that were both installed on my system. I finally got this to work by completely de-installing macports, re-installing homebrew with python2.7, numpy, etc. from scratch, and the following ran cleanly without error:
