With regard to json, I think that support of any valid structure would be
better than nothing. Like chemical XML, it's easily extensible for specific
use cases, so I think any basic specification would get the ball rolling
without inhibiting corner cases. I like the json my program outputs, but
I'm obviously biased :-)
