Having more than one Open Babel installed is the most common cause of confusing problems. You can overcome these problems by careful setting of environment variables (PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, BABEL_DATADIR, BABEL_LIBDIR). However, it's just easier and simpler to delete the old version.
