That is not what i mean - how is the plugin called/executed?
As you are using check_mk for the check execution it is interesting if you
also use the mechanic from check_mk for notifications.
If your contacts are manually configured you can take a look at the object
definitions under
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagioscore/docs/nagioscore/3/en/objectdefinitions.html#contact
here
you find the "service_notification_options" with the switch "u" it is
possible to enable notifications for UNKNOWN state.
If you use the check_mk rule based notifications then you can build some
rules with also unknown as the trigger.
