Testing with 17.12 Beta, ".okular" is preselected and also mentioned at the
bottom. If you change to ".pdf", it will actually be saved as a PDF and work
fine. If you have no extension at all, ".okular" gets appended automatically.

Only if you change to something strange like ".okular-foo", Okular's automatic
reopening will fail, and the saved version cannot be opened manually unless
renamed. IMO the behaviour of the file dialog is good enough.

Adding this to the documentation could still be worth it, I'll try to prepare a
patch once I find the time.
