Still, though, if those were my actions that caused the issue, would you be so kind as to explain what exactly may have resulted in *rc files being owned by "root"? I'm also curious as to why the version from the Kubuntu Backports PPA and the one from the standard repo handle said file differently. I'd very much like to avoid it from this point onward.
