JAKARTA, April 29 (Reuters) - The world's largest instant noodle maker, PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk INDF.JK, on Tuesday said that first-quarter net profit more than doubled due to strong consumer demand.
Indofood, which is controlled by the Salim family through Hong Kong-listed First Pacific Co Ltd (0142.HK: Quote, Profile, Research), reported that January-March net profit rose to 382.93 billion rupiah ($41.5 million), up 116 percent from a year ago. Net sales jumped 51.8 percent to 8.85 trillion rupiah. Indofood, which has a market capitalisation of $2.2 billion, controls two of the world's largest flour millers through its unit, Bogasari Flour Mills. Indonesians are among the world's biggest consumers of instant noodles, getting through an average of 60 packs per person a year.
