Factory orders are not causing today's dip. The reason for today's dipis that
the markets recently cleared their 50 day moving averages. Inthe recent past,
and during most bear markets, when markets approach,hit or clear the 50 day
moving average, they sell off. From a trader'sperspective, if you made money
shorting the market at the 50 dayaverage, you will keep doing so until you stop
making money doing that.At which point you will stop selling stocks and start
buying them. Youdon't care about factory orders, or much else for that matter
newswise.You care about the odds that the market will keep in its
currenttrendline. Nothing more.
So, today is a big day - or rather, this week is a big week.Either the markets
will hold at their 50 day averages, and then provethat these areas are no
longer resistance, but rather, are support.When markets are at a support level,
they rally. Alternatively, themarkets will observe the 50 day averages as
resistance, and, as theyalways do when they reach a resistance level, will sell
off. The SP500will trend back towards 1300, and the Dow will trend lower to
12,050.From there, who can say? They might just bounce right back up again,or,
potentially, will trend even lower still. A discussion of what thatfight may
look like if and when it forms is for another day.
