A photographed Clay-colored Sparrow was found -L. LaBella- at Governors Island in New York County on Monday, October 21. ... Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City Sunday, October 20th -
The total number of migratory American Warbler species in Central Park on Sunday the 20th of October was at least 17, which included a Northern Waterthrush ongoing at the north end of the park. All of these species seen by multiple observers and photographers, many affiliated with or regularly leading bird walks for not-for-profit organizations, with sightings from throughout the park and for all of the day. Ovenbird Northern Waterthrush Black-and-white Warbler Tennessee Warbler Nashville Warbler Common Yellowthroat American Redstart Cape May Warbler Northern Parula Magnolia Warbler Yellow Warbler Blackpoll Warbler Black-throated Blue Warbler Palm Warbler Pine Warbler Myrtle Yellow-rumped Warbler Black-throated Green Warbler Reports of Orange-crowned Warbler continue and this is a species that has regularly been found late in the year as well as some overwintering in Manhattan. Interestingly at least one other N. Waterthrush has been reported, on Sunday 10/20, from New York County. All of the above noted species of warblers have records in Central Park going to later, and many much much later in the season. There were prior recent confirmed sightings of Eastern Wood-Pewee to at least October 19, and of Red-eyed Vireo to at least October 20 for Central Park. The numbers of Wood Ducks and Hooded Mergansers each increased slightly in Central Park by Sunday, with all other ducks reported for the prior day having remained as well. For a few of the multiple Green-winged Teals at The Pool in the parks north end, molting had been occurring and there are as it turns out at least a few young males in that lingering group, as the molts continue. American Coot is also lingering at the CP reservoir. Thanks to those many quiet, keen, courteous observers who have found and reported so many sightings via non-x alerts such as the Discord app and as always via eBird alerts, regular checklists, and also with media files to the Macaulay Library archives.
