Manhattan, N.Y. City, with Central Park and other parks -
Thru Wed, Oct. 9th -

Despite some searching, a LeContes Sparrow was not found again on the day
following its appearance at Inwood Hill Park in northern Manhattan. Other
sparrow species still showing in Manhattan including in Central Park included
White-crowned, and at least 7 more native sparrow species thru Oct. 9th.

At least one Yellow-billed Cuckoo was ongoing and also still being seen
consuming invasive Spotted Lanternflies at Central Park. Thrush species seen
thru Wednesday including in Central Park included Gray-cheeked, Wood,
Swainsons, and many Hermit Thrush, with Veery still present at least to Oct.
8th. Still showing at least into 10-9 were Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted
Grosbeak, and Indigo Bunting.

Of at least 18 migratory American warbler species continuing to Wednesday,
somewhat more notable were at least 2 Hooded Warblers in Central Park, one in
adult male-like plumage seen by many observers and photographers. Also still
around at least thru Wed, in Central Park, were N. Waterthrushes, American
Redstarts, and Blackpoll Warblers as well as other species in higher numbers.

More observers were taking note of Ruddy Duck, while Hooded Merganser remained
at Central Park as well as Green-winged Teal and Wood Ducks, along with
increased numbers of N. Shovelers. American Coots also remained in Central
Park. At least several Marsh Wrens have been showing in various Manhattan
parks, including in Central Park.

Many, many more migrants can and will be noted in future reports. Thanks to
many keen, courteous and quiet observers and photographers, as is typical
including a number of the guides in leading not-for-profit bird walks, such as
for the NYC Bird Alliance, the Linnaean Society of New York, and the walk
series of the American Museum of Natural History, amongst other not-for-profit
orgs giving guided walks for wild bird lovers in N.Y. City, and in support of
conservation and education and as ever, of sound science.

Good and peaceful birding to all,

Tom Fiore
