Last Friday I was fortunate enough to find an apparent juvenile Common
Ringed Plover in Jamaica Bay while out kayaking. If accepted it would be a
first county record for Kings and I believe the fifth or sixth for the

My apologies for the delay in reporting it more widely, though even at the
time I don’t know how chaseable it was, given the location and weather
conditions. I was suspicious of the bird in the field but hardly confident,
and when I got home I actually forgot about it for a few days as family
stuff intervened. I was reminded to go investigate my photos by the
BirdCast article from Andrew Farnsworth, Doug Gochfeld, and Marshall Iliff
that suggested being on the lookout for this species.
