I went to Heckscher SP (Suffolk) from 11:30 AM to about 1PM today. It rained
steadily but it was 64 degrees. There was a nice variety of shorebirds
providing very close views.
The highlights were 3 American Golden Plovers and a very nondescript
Long-billed Dowitcher that I initially could not pin down to species. Later,
Ken Thompson and Mike Cooper showed up and also couldn’t provide a positive ID
on a very wet bird.
Finally, the bird picked up and Mike was able to hear and make an audible
identification. Thanks Mike!!
Also present were roughly 40+ Dunlin, 1 Semipalmated Plover, and many Killdeer,
Greater Yellowlegs, and Black-bellied Plovers. A female Pintail was also in the
main pool.
I posted a few lousy photos to the eBird checklist of the Golden Plover and
Dunlin.
I tried to post a decent video of the dowitcher, too, but eBird would not
accept MP4 format. I tried converting to MP3 but it only took the audio portion.
If anyone knows how to convert MP4/upload to ebird, let me know and I’ll post
it.

Cheers,
