Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City

A Louisiana Waterthrush was working the north edge of the Upper Lobe (the most northwesterly arm of the Lake, this being not far from park entrances at both W. 77 & W. 81 Streets. This is the first documented sighting of the species in the Ramble (just barely) of Central Park this spring, of which I'm aware.

That warbler was rather quiet when seen & photographed by me, no song heard - and none should be "induced" by any person[s] with devices capable of causing disturbance to a migrant in need of feeding & foraging as is necessary to it's well-being (and because there is never a need to play bird recordings or playback in city parks, beyond occasional listenings to determine a song or call that was heard already, as a genuine learning experience, and done with respect to other birders but most importantly in the best interest of the birds!

Much overnight migration was easily noted by the fresh arrival of Hermit Thrushes, which are on-schedule for a major arrival this week. Also seen were a few true net-tropical (wintering) birds that could be "sneaking" in on the southerly winds of late. More reporting as warranted, anon.

good & peaceful birding,
Tom Fiore
