Tristan Lowery and I visited Dover Plains this morning to look for the two Golden Eagles that have been reported there. We found them right away, at the entrance to the Ten Mile River Preserve, off Limekiln Road. They were perched in a tree where the road comes to a T. One flew off and gave good flight views. There was also a melanistic Ring-necked Pheasant, with iridescent purple plumage.
