The small-ish goose - possible Cackling, if not a hybrid Canada- Cackling, is again with 300+ Canada Geese, seen thru this mid-morning near the northwest portion of the reservoir in Central Park (Manhattan, N.Y. City) ... many of the geese were at rest, bills tucked-in, and the sun makes for somewhat more problematic viewing this day, but the goose of interest can be found with a bit of work. The gulls this a.m. at the reservoir were minimal in number, & consisted of the 3 typical-regular species.

- couple of additional birds seen on Wednesday, but not today (by me):
A Red-breasted Merganser, photographed at east side of reservoir late Wed., 2/17 - this species has been more regular, perhaps just about annual, than is Common Merganser in Central Park, but is never numerous, often just single individuals, although that's also often so of many of various now-uncommon duckage found in Central in most- recent times. A Merlin was noted early Wed. by the reservoir's w. side by me & again later on & also photo'd near the W. 100 St. park entrance by Ken Chaya.

good birding,
Tom Fiore
