28, 2015 Greetings. This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 
September 21, 2015 Highlights:----------- CACKLING GOOSEBUFF-BREASTED

Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)------------
Another great week for shorebirds with 21 species reported at the complex.     
9/22: A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was observed at VanDyne Spoor Road.     9/23: A 
WILSON’S PHALAROPE was found at the Visitor’s Center.     9/25: A HUDSONIAN 
GODWIT was found in Eaton Marsh along the Wildlife Trail. 7 species of 
shorebirds including AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER were 
seen from East Road.     9/26: A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was observed in flight 
along the Wildlife Trail. A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH was seen on Esker Brook Trail. 
The HUDSONIAN GODWIT was relocated at Knox-Marsellus Marsh but has not been 
reported again.     9/27: 13 species of shorebirds including LONG-BILLED 
DOWITCHER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and STILT SANDPIPER were seen along the 
Wildlife Trail.

Onondaga County------------
     9/23: 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were seen at Joseph F. William Park on 
Oneida Lake.     9/27: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW, a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and 2 
RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were seen at Three Rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville.

Oswego County------------
     9/26: A CACKLING GOOSE, a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH and an ORANGE-CROWNED 
WARBLER were all seen near Darrow Road west of Mexico.

Oneida County------------
     9/22: A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was found o Irish Hill Road.

Oneida county------------
     9/27: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD were found at Spring Farm 
Nature Center south of Clinton.

Herkimer County------------
     9/23: An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER wa seen at a private residence north of 
Dolgeville.

Cayuga County------------
     9/26: A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, an SANDERLING and a DUNLIN were all found at 
West Barrier Beach Park in Fair Haven.
