During an early morning hike out to Democrat Point at Robert Moses SP I saw no pelagic birds out over the ocean, not surprising given the wind shift to the north overnight. But, sadly, I did come across the carcass of a Great Shearwater washed up on the beach (https://flic.kr/p/uAuNW4). This is local evidence that possibly corresponds to a recent larger scale die-off down in the Bahamas and another within the last week in Cape May. The birds were moving purposefully, in pulses, over the dunes, beach, and even out over the surf.
