Late this morning Patricia Lindsay and I observed two adult or near-adult Arctic Terns and one Roseate Tern on the Cupsogue flats, northeast of Moriches Inlet, Suffolk, LI. Although a fair number of late-spring shorebirds were present nearby to the east at Pikes Beach (180 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 20 Ruddy Turnstones, 5 Sanderlings), the shorebirds at Cupsogue looked more like a small, over-summering flock: 3 Black-bellied Plovers, 14 Short-billed Dowitchers, and single Dunlin, Sanderling and Ruddy Turnstone. On the ocean side Pat had a Parasitic Jaeger.
