A report was made on the Long Island wildlife Facebook page showing a painted bunting at a feeder. Apparently the person who made the report lives in military housing on fire island.
No specific location was given but putting together the clues it's located at the coast guard housing on fire island at Robert Moses. Due to the fact that its military housing - the public is not permitted to view the bird. On my lunch break I checked up on the bald eagle nest on moriches bay. I observed the female (sub adult plumage) feeding one chick (10-14 days old based on size?). There is only 1 confirmed, but perhaps more. There was a LOT of noise near the nest from boats being worked on at a nearby marina and passing boats but the bird showed no signs of reacting. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
