5/4/15 Long Lake (Hamilton Co.) first-of-the-season: *

Finally, south winds.new today:

*Least Flycatcher

*Nashville Warbler

*Amer. Redstart

*Northern Parula

*Magnolia Warbler

*Blackburnian Warbler

*Black-throated Blue Warbler

11 of the 18 warbler species that breed along Sabattis Circle Road are back.

The Gray Jay pair greeted me at my car again at Sabattis Bog - they really
are adorable! I photographed a cooperative Ruffed Grouse along the road.

I found many birds along the Northville-Placid Trail (S) in Long Lake today
including a pair of Black-backed Woodpeckers and a Northern Waterthrush.

Barred Owls have been vocalizing every night - last night, it sounded like
the owl was hooting into our baby monitor! Wild Turkeys are outside our
house all day, every day - 3 females and a gobbling male.

5/3/15 Roosevelt Truck Trail in Minerva (Essex Co.)

On the drive to the Roosevelt Truck Trail northern trailhead on the Blue
Ridge Road, I observed the first Black Bear scat of the season! I heard two
Black-backed Woodpeckers rattle-calling along the trail (this is the time of
year when I find them mating and they give the rattle call during that
activity!).
