I took a short ride “around the block” on Sunday morning, sticking fairly local
to my house just to see what was going on bird-wise.

A trip down Salt Rd in Constantia found the following new arrivals (at least
for me):

4 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH
1 OVENBIRD
1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO
7 LEAST FLYCATCHERS
1 COMMON YELLOWTHROAT
1 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER

Also on Salt Rd, I encountered a COMMON RAVEN feeding on the remains of a small
songbird in the middle of the road. Not sure if it was picking road kill or of
it killed the bird itself, but he took his prize and flew up into a nearby tree
as I approached.

On Dutcherville Rd I had my first AMERICAN REDSTART and YELLOW-THROATED VIREO,
both in the vicinity of Dutcher Pond.

On Kibbie Lake Rd, one of the BALD EAGLES was sitting on the nest at Kibbie
Lake.

At home, I tried to see what the MERLINS were up to, but I am not having much
luck. They are not spending any time near last year’s nest, but instead are
hanging around the property which lies to the south and west of my own. There
are several White Pine trees in this area and may have chosen one of those to
use.

Finally, yesterday afternoon while working in the yard, I had my first
sightings of EASTERN KINGBIRD and CHIMNEY SWIFT.
