3/7/15 Long Lake (Hamilton Co.)

At Sabattis Bog this morning, there was a bird perched at the top of a tree
right outside my car. It was backlit, but I had a feeling it was a Boreal
Chickadee. All the birds were anxious for me to put out food, so I did that
first - and then the perched bird began to vocalize - Boreal Chickadee! I
had my camera around my neck and I missed a wonderful opportunity for a
photo as it quickly disappeared! There were several Boreal Chickadees at
the bog this morning. The pair of Gray Jays showed up. The female should
be laying eggs any day now.

I stopped at a feeder location in Long Lake midday and found at least 9
Evening Grosbeaks - mostly males! The owner said they seem to show up every
3 days or so. I posted a few photos (taken from a distance away) on my
Facebook page.

An adult Bald Eagle few by our window a few minutes ago with something in
its mouth. Bald Eagles have been nesting on Long Lake for several years
now. Their population recovery is truly remarkable.
