The Hawk Migration Association of North America is excited to present its 2014 Conference "40 Years - Connecting Hawks and People" hosted by Braddock Bay Raptor Research in Rochester, New York on April 25-27, 2014. The conference will commemorate HMANA's 40th anniversary and will be held during peak raptor migration season at one of North America's premier spring hawk watch sites.
Spring is an amazing time to be birding along the great lakes. Located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, Braddock Bay features a variety of habitats that are key to making this location an important stop over point for hundreds of thousands of migrating birds, and not just raptors. The majority of the conference program takes place on Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27, at the Rochester Airport Marriott Hotel. At this location conference participants will get to participate in a variety of fascinating and exciting scientific presentations and panel discussions, with topics ranging from using GPS to track migrant birds to cutting edge identification workshops. The event also promises two special keynote addresses, and a banquet to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of HMANA. Keynote speakers will be Keith Bildstein, Sarkis Acopian Director of Conservation Science at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, and Richard Crossley, internationally acclaimed birder, award winning author and photographer. There will be ample time allotted each day to provide opportunities for birding at Braddock Bay and beyond. Pre-conference activities will start April 24 and include field trips to The Roger Tory Peterson Institute, Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge and birding hotspots along the shore of Lake Ontario. More details about the HMANA Conference, including registration information, can be found on the conference website http://conference.hmana.org/ and there will be updates and details posted on the HMANA blog http://hmana.blogspot.com/ over the next few weeks. Early bird registration ends April 1, so make your plans soon! It should be an incredible event. I look forward to seeing you there.
