Hi Everyone,

I was all over the North and South shores today: Jones Beach, Point
Lookout, Gilgo, Cedar Beach, Captree, Robert Moses SP, Lake Capri (West
Islip), Sunken Meadow SP, Centerport, Huntington Harbor, Cold Spring
Harbor, Oyster Bay, Bayville, East Beach (Glen Cove). I usually stay on
the south shore, but figured give the north shore some attention for a
change,

First, the flops: I did quick but decent searches for the gyrfalcon and
northern shrike but did not locate them; no redheads or anything noteworthy
on Lake Capri, Sunken Meadow nothing going on at Long Island Sound, St
John's Pond (Cold Spring Harbor) and parts of many harbors had lots of ice

Had some nice highlights during the day:
7 Harlequin Ducks, small group of Bonaparte gulls feeding in the breaking
waves, (and a few seals) at Point Lookout
50+ Canvasbacks, 1 Redhead drake, 1 Green Wing Teal at Centerport - not
Mill Pond, but at the pond by the Chalet Motor Inn
1 flyby Gannet at Robert Moses SP
a few Snow buntings stopped at Oyster Bay, by Centre Isalnd
2 pairs of Goldeneye at Captree - close for some good pics

I will post pics to my blog over the weekend.

Good birding,
Rob in Massapequa
