I whipped up a quick post that includes a few photos of the
http://birdingdude.blogspot.com/2013/07/it-is-shaping-up-to-be-another-ruff.htmlRuff
and Avocet from the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. See here -

Quick notes: There was definitely movement of birds last night into the
area as evidenced by the birds on the *East Pond* today. Yesterday, there
were less than 10 Short-billed Dowitchers *(I kid you not)*. Today, while a
far cry from the thousands being reported from the pond, there were a
little more than 150 on the pond.

Lots of Semipalmated Sandpipers still around and arrived and the number of
Semipalmated Plovers have jumped from last night's influx of birds.

Still not the best in terms of variety as I did not record any Pectoral
Sandpiper nor did I see Thursday's Long-billed Dowitcher.

Exciting stuff with the *RUFF* and *AMERICAN AVOCET* and many thanks to Jim
Schlickenrieder for the find and the birders with him who really exercised
good discipline and allowed the bird to settle in rather than moving in for
closer views.

Thanks too to Keith Michael and his friend for finding the *American
Avocet*and Ken Feustel for his prompt call in getting the word out.

Not a shorebird but worthy of a mention - Steve Walter and I heard and then
saw a *Yellow-billed Cuckoo* fly west over the East Pond. Would have been
nice to snag a flight shot with shorebirds in the mix. Listen for it when
you are out there.

"Don't just tick, enjoy the birds...all of them"

Good Shorebirding!
