The Black Brant, reported yesterday at Hecksher S.P. by Pat Lindsay, continues at the nearby Timber Point County Club in Great River.
I observed the bird feeding among an estimated 800 Pale-bellied Brant (Atlantic) behind the main building on the golf course and remained on site until I left around 5:40 PM. It was somewhat of a chore picking the bird out among the tightly packed group, but the birds near complete white collar was quite noticeable when the flock lifted their heads. The Black Brant eventually came into full view and allowed for excellent detail along with some record digiscope images. The bird periodically disappeared within the tight flock but continued to allow snapshot views. The best way to view this bird is to just wait patiently and closely observe the tight flock as they shuffle around, unless you can find a higher vantage point to view from.
