Yesterday Eric Miller, Bob Hayes, and I went up to Storm King to look for the Golden Eagle[s] that had been reported recently. Stopping and scanning from the Storm King State Park pull out on 9W, we saw Turkey Vultures, Black Vultures Bald Eagles, and one bird that caught our attention, which we followed to a snag adjacent to a Pine tree on the side of the mountain where we were able to study the Golden Eagle in our scopes for some time.

We stopped for lunch, after which an email came through that the Pink-footed Goose had been relocated by Rob Stone. When we finally arrived we found several birders including Curt McDermott, who informed us the goose had left...

Curt knew of another location nearby that the goose had been seen, and we followed him there and lo and behold he picked it out of the impressive Canada Goose flock. There were large numbers of Snow Geese as well. Thanks Curt!

At his suggestion we birded nearby Indiana road, where Eric Miller found us a Lapland Longspur in with a flock of Horned Larks.

We ended the day at Wallkill River NWR which had ca. 100 Pintail. Eric Miller alerted us to a Snipe flying overhead making its call, and we saw the usual suspects there. We did not stay long enough or see Short-eared Owls that had previously been reported.
