Tom Fiore, Manhattan - - - - - Subject: NNYBirds: Smew at Lisbon Beach on the St. Lawrence River Date: Sat Feb 16 2013 17:09 pm From: jsbolsinger This morning I found a female-plumaged Smew on the river very close to the lifeguard chair at Lisbon Beach. I had great views (and obtained not-so-great digiscoped photos) from about 9:05 to 10:30 a.m, but unfortunately the Smew flew off to the west just minutes before the first birders arrived in response to my calls. I stayed to about 1:30, by which time about a dozen others had joined the search, but to my knowledge the Smew was not seen again. Carol and I are going to try for it tomorrow morning, and I will get the word out if we relocate it. Lisbon Beach is on Rt. 37 approximately 8 miles east of Ogdensburg.
