With waterbodies frozen over much of the area, open water at the south end of
Stump Pond at Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown has been concentrating good
numbers of waterfowl.  Among approximately 400 Canada Geese this morning were 2
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and 2 CACKLING GEESE, the latter of which have been
on the pond in the morning regularly since last week.  A gull roost has also
been steadily building since this second freeze-up, but nothing unexpected
today.
