This morning the low(ish) tide mudflats at Plum Beach hosted the 2 continuing juvenile American Oystercatchers, 2 juvenile Ruddy Turnstones (probably the same two Rob Bate reported from the Dead Horse marina a few days ago), and the most surprising: a "Western" Willet. This was likely the first time in my life that I viewed a Willet through falling snow.
A bit later, an adult-ish Bald Eagle flew over heading west. This may well be the one that has been hanging around Jamaica Bay for the last month and a half or so. The Plum Beach parking lot is currently closed, so I accessed it from the western end of the beach, and walked the ~1 mile out to the tip. Good Birding -Doug Gochfeld.
