Target bird at Hecksher was red crossbill of which I saw several East of 7. No luck with redpoll or longspur, and no white wing crossbills. Then on to Huntington. After spending about 45 minutes from about 3:30 until 4:15 I bumped into Dave Klauber and we spent about another half hour without success. We traveled up and down the East side of the harbor. The thinking being that if the bird is there in the morning, it must come in the evening. We gave one last try at the park by the police station and low and behold the tufted duck appeared swimming slowly toward us from the North just as it began to get dark. It joined some mallards and black ducks in a small area of water South of the moored large boat. The ducks were swimming in a large circle keeping this small area from freezing. Great looks, but I'm sure the area will freeze by dark, as is most of the harbor. We'll see what happens to the duck after the freeze!Pat Jones --
