While not as exciting as breeding season Kentucky and Hooded Warblers on
Long Island, Yellow-throated Vireo is unusual enough for a shout out, at
least on the western end of the island. There is one recent known nesting in
Alley Pond Park, Queens three years ago, and maybe a couple of other males
acting territorially. I didn't know of any in the area last year or this
year until I came across one in Alley today, around Little Alley Pond. The
down side, though, is that it seemed to be wandering quite a bit, eventually
moving out of earshot -- not giving the impression of being tied to a nest.
